Route 3 – “Byzantine Meditation”

This Route is still beign tested.

This is also a very special route, chosen for extreme off – road enthusiasts. As every day, we will set off from Syvota early in the morning and head east into the mountains. We will first travel along Egnatia national road and subsequently off road from Paramythia to our 1st stop, Prophet Elias chapel above Kallithea village. We will hike for 5 minutes along a stunning path with steps made on the rocks, until we reach this picturesque, white-washed church which has been built on a steep hill, offering a beautiful view over the Kalamas River valley below.

Afterwards, we will be off-roading for 20 minutes over extreme, wild terrain until we find asphalt again, just below Paganioi Monastery.

Our next brief stop will be at the Virgin Mary Chapel in Plakoti village, where we will enjoy the view of the wild natural surroundings. The numerous beautiful villages in the area and the Kalamas River flowing through the gorge below make this scenery unique.

Our next stop is nearby, at Spyropigadia on the straits of Kalama river. We will pass by the village of Pente Ekklisies (meaning “5 churches”) and off-road again, crossing this whole location that is an ode to nature. We will have time for a quick snack under the shade of old plane trees, right next to Kalamas River, in the heart of the spectacular gorge. Walking by the river you will surely be amazed by the stunning scenery. Those who are brave enough can take a refreshing dip in the river before we set off for our next stop.

The Post Byzantine settlement of Ouzdina is our next destination. This stunning settlement is on high ground just beside the Kalamas Straits and is characterized by many as the “Machu Picchu” of Thesprotia. Dating back to 12-13th century this picturesque settlement consists of many stone churches and remnants of a fortress with fortification walls all around. A 5-minute hike is necessary in order to reach the archaeological site.

Lastly we will head for the sea, off-roading by the Kalamas River, and our last stop will be at a very beautiful, small beach where we will relax and take a swim in crystal clear, turquoise waters. This beach belongs to Perdika village and is also idyllic on windy days. To round off the tour, we will enjoy a homemade lunch, including “Mousaka”, Greek salad, olives in virgin olive oil and fresh bread, under the tall olive trees, served with unlimited “tsipouro”(cold beers will also be available).

I will be your personal photographer throughout our adventure and capture professionally the magical moments that we have shared together. (A drone will also be used.) The images captured will remind you of one of the greatest adventures you have ever experienced!  My team and I guarantee this!

So, because we only have ONE LIFE, don’t wait, LIVE IT!!!
